high-waisted shorts!
by @sarahsaysfeedmeramen

wow I haven't been on here in forever!
is everyone almost out of school??
I have 8 days left and I graduate June 9th :)

+ what to know about high-waisted shorts +

so recently I've been looking for some new shorts and I really like the high-waisted style. I feel comfortable in them and I like how they frame my body.

+where to buy
-Levi's
-Abercrombie and Fitch
-Charlotte Russe
-Forever 21
-Etsy
-Urban Outfitters
-Free People

+how to find your size
I've been finding that if I pick a pair of high-waisted shorts to try on in my normal size, they're relatively comfortable, but some feel better when I go a size up. It really all depends on where you buy the shorts.
If you're ordering from an online store, this chart is handy for measuring yourself:
http://img2.etsystatic.com/005/0/5565797/il_fullxfull.377938322_tzgs.jpg
If you're able to go to a store and try on the shorts before purchasing them online, I'd suggest doing that, just so you know what your size is for that brand.

+what to wear with them
As you can see from the pictures in the set, you can wear a variety of shoes with these shorts:
heeled sandals, high-heeled boots, flat boots, sneakers, toms, flat sandals, etc. PLEASE don't wear knee-high boots with high-waisted shorts, as the proportions won't work out.
For tops, shirts often look cute when tucked in, but bralettes/bustiers look good as well. I got a really cute tribal print bralette from F21 and a chambray floral bustier from dELiA*s. Consider collared shirts, oversized t-shirts, or tie-dye.

+how to customize them
If you're buying a simpler pair of shorts and want to give them something more, consider studding them! You can buy packs of 200 studs on Etsy for under $3, and they're relatively simple to apply. I'm planning on making a tutorial on how to do them once I make mine.
Also, you can bleach or dip dye your shorts. Just make sure to test out what you want to do before you attempt to work on your shorts.

I think that's it! If you have any suggestions for something else you think I should add, let me know!

I'm hoping to become more active with this account again. I'm getting excited for summer and all the potential tips!

update/tips for a great christmas!

update/tips for a great christmas!
wow ok.
so obviously I haven't been on here in a while! I've actually been really busy with school, and while I have been relatively active with tumblr (what can I say, it's addicting), I haven't been giving as much time to facebook or polyvore.
i should definitely be able to crank out a few tips over break, since I have relatively little homework, but before we start with this one, I figured I'd give a little update on my personal life.

+ yes, that is me and my sister in the above picture (sorry for the quality, it's from my mom's phone). our tree is kind of janky and missing a few branches, but we love it anyway :)
+ I have been VERY busy with my four AP classes, lots of homework and tests. statistics is definitely the hardest.
+ I actually had oral surgery this morning, so I'm currently experiencing some toothaches and upper gum/lip discomfort, but nothing too bad!
+ I'M GOING TO ITALY IN THE SPRING! I take latin as my foreign language, and a bunch of us are taking the trip across the pond in march! I am extremely excited :)

::HOW TO HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS!::

O1. make sure you have EVERYTHING on your list!
-- I know it's probably a bit late for most of us to set up a shopping list, but if you've still got some things to get, this is the perfect time to do an inventory. get everyone who you're planning on giving a gift to on a list in front of you. if you already have presents for some of them, write them all out. if you still need to get some things, do some brainstorming! I found one of my dad's gifts on tumblr from someone I follow, and one for his fiancee through my school! read catalogs, go window shopping, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, ask people what they want! there is nothing worse than getting a gift you know you have no use for and having it end up under a bed or in the back of a closet.

O2. keep all your gifts-to-give in one place!
-- for me, it's the biggest drawer in my dresser (I'm serious). if you want, wrap as you go, or take an hour or so on the 23rd to get everything ready for under the tree.

O3. consider gift cards.
-- I know some people say these aren't thoughtful, but honestly I'd rather receive a gift card than a gift I have no use for. try and narrow it down to a specific store/restaurant if you can.

O4. remember, it's the thought that counts.
-- if you do end up getting a present you don't need and it's from a family member, consider speaking with your parents about what you should do. if it's not your size or you don't have an iphone but you got a case, let them know! your family should (hopefully) appreciate you telling them and be glad to exchange it. if the gift's from a friend, pull them to the side and let them know politely that you've already read the book or just bought the cd on itunes, they should understand. if the question is about a gift you don't necessarily want, consider regifting!

O5. always, ALWAYS remember to say 'thank you'.

O6. do something for others.
-- every year my family goes to our local YMCA to serve food to the people that live there and others who come in for the meal. we bake mostaccioli to bring and there are tons of other dishes there as well. it's always really great to see how that one meal can make someone's day so much brighter, especially on christmas. if you don't know of some place you can go, consider donating money. one of my favorite organizations is heifer international (www.heifer.org). they use monetary donations to give animals and plants to families in need all over the world, such as cows, chickens, honey bees, or trees, as well as gifts such as sending a girl to school, improving nutrition, etc. a gift-animal gives a family a food source, as well as allows possible excess produce to be sold for money.

O7. it's not all about the presents.
-- I love christmas because it's a time when everyone's supposed to be happy. I understand that's not always the case, but my family puts their best effort forth every year to make sure everyone's having a good time. ask how you can help in the kitchen; try not to fight with your siblings; try to compromise when there's indecision between "it's a wonderful life" and "miracle on 34th street". christmas is the one day for putting aside petty quarrels and disagreements and coming together. if your family is religious, keep that in mind. my family isn't, so I don't know how church works on christmas or what some religious traditions are, but iif that's part of your life and you enjoy it, embrace it.

O8. traditions!
-- traditions are great, no matter how silly they may seem. they can hold families together and offer consistency year after year. wear your christmas jammies for opening presents! don't groan about taking the ugly christmas sweater picture. if your parents are the ones making a big deal, indulge them! chances are you won't always be there for christmas. don't have any traditions? start some new ones this year! play charades after dinner; drive around to look at christmas lights; make a special dish for dinner. my family has the tradition of either making pasta for dinner or going out to this one jewish restaurant (this year it's the restaurant). whatever it is, have fun!

O9. the december 26th blahs
-- for me, december 26th is the worst day of the year, because it's the furthest day from next christmas. don't just sit around moping; do something! if it's cleaning, put your heart into it! get it over and done with so you can have that out of the way. play a board game! take your younger sibling to a movie. go bowling. have a snowball fight! do your homework :p clean your room. watch old family home movies. hang out with friends. there are tons of options!

these are all that I can think of, but I might add some leading up to the 25th.
if you have any suggestions, please let me know and I'd be glad to make some adjustments!

EVERYTHING you need to know about FINALS. ♥
by; @its-kelli-darling

first off, finals suck. let's just make that very clear, they're awful and the weeks before finals make you want to drop out of school and just be done. last year i stressed my body to it's max & i got sick. but it doesn't HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT. :)

NOW BY MAKING THAT CLEAR; let me tell you how to survive them with good grades & a stable mind. ♥

WHEN DO I START STUDYING?;
the week after thanksgiving break is the perfect time to start. it gives you about a month to begin reviewing so you're not dying the week of finals because you don't know any of it. (: It may seem early but finals really sneak up on you!

WHAT TO REVIEW;
it's different for each class but about a month before it's a good idea to review the first things you learned, since that probably isn't something you remember very well. but basically review EVERYTHING. especially things you remember being on tests or being talked about a lot!

STUDY TECHNIQUES;
FLASHCARDS. ♥ almost all teachers hand out final packets, that are like 5 pages long, that you fill out. regardless if they take it for points, you should fill it out, it's a great way to figure out the important stuff you need to know & to review.

STAYING STRESS-FREE;
i'm planning on getting the b&b works stress relief spray. seriously, it helps. light a candle, take a nap, you're NOT RETAINING ANYTHING IF YOU'RE STRESSED. so if you feel a stress breakdown coming on. STOP STUDYING.

TAKE BREAKS!!!!!!!!;
if you try to cram in all the information in a 5 hour span, it's useless. you need to have snacks, drink water and take breaks.

HELP;
if you don't know something ASK. it may seem obvious but don't be nervous, just ask the question. what's more embarrassing: flunking a final or staying after school/class and asking a question?

STAYING FOCUSED;
it may be a good idea to turn off electronics the days before finals or deactivate some accounts. i can't tell you how tempting it is to go on a set making spree when you should be studying biology. (that rhymed hahahahahahahahah)

DAY(S) OF FINALS;
you should go to school wearing comfy clothes. you'll be sitting in the same seat for hours, so i mean. yoga pants, slippers & a sweatshirt are a good option.

WHAT TO BRING;
-your study packet if it's due that day.
-waterbottle!!!!
-ipod/iphone for after the test :)
-2 pencils.
-extra eraser!
-calculator.
-a book for after.
-notes for other finals so you can study after you take the final!
-some people brought blankets last year, haha. :)

RANDOM THOUGHT;
my teachers don't let anyone come into the room once the final has started, so don't be late. & go to the bathroom BEFORE. my teachers at least, don't let you go to the bathroom. it's a school rule.

MOST IMPORTANT THING;
don't stress, like i did, just prepare early, ask questions, and do amazing! ♥

hope this helps! (:

Rachels Challenge
So today at school, we had a rachels challenge assembly come to us, and it inspired me to bring awareness the best way I can, through polyvore.

Just before you go check it out, Rachel was the first to be shot at the columbine shooting in Colorado, over 10 years ago, just fyi.

Go to this website, please. Watch the video. IT WILL NOT BE A WASTE OF TIME.

This experience has moved myself and my friends to be better people, even after one day. We joined our schools "Friends of Rachel" club, to help end bullying and bring positivity, and start a chain reaction.

I hope that EVERYONE that sees this goes and checks out the websites, it will move you.

how to get a perfect topknot.
@likewohaa
perf for summer winter ok. all seasons. and super in. like i feel like its so much more put together and can be dressed up and down unlike the annoying fan buns (my name for those horrid things) like everygirl does.
-
-bobby - ins LOTS

-heavy hold hairspray

-ELASTICS- hold onto your hair much better make sure to have lots

-good combs/brushes

-TIME. really good clean perf topknots take a while
....or at least for me

-clean hair. you can tell your hair is oily like on second days if you wear them

-get creative! braid your bangs, braid up the back in a french reverse braid, add bows, etc!

-find out how your hair stays in! its much harder with layers just fy. if it stays better twisted REAALY tight or lose. experiment!

-do the 'fall out test.' shake your head lighty to make sure its in place!

-frame your face! or else ESPECIALLY if youre a SUPER light blonde- you could look bald! let a few pieces down on the side.

-dont put it tooo high or youll look like idek man. just place it right like at the crown and around that area.

-try adding a sock-like the sock bun...but put it up higher!

-if you cant do it at all get a kit! they sell them at sephora in different colors to match your hair color. i think theyre like $6...?

this was a sutpid really fast tip. better ones coming up soon! (:

The Thing About Nail Polish

6 months ago - 4,281 views
The Thing About Nail Polish
First, you should know Nail Polish isn't that healthy for your nails. It won't damage them over time, don't worry, but it will stain them no matter how much nail polish remover you use. Try an experiment, and don't wear nail polish for a month or two, and you will notice the tips of your nails will be whiter!

Another thing you probably want to know are the best brands to buy and the ones to avoid. These are just in my opinion, it's not a fact, but I have learned the hard way on some of these.
THE BEST:
OPI
Revlon
Essie
Butter London

THE WORST:
5 Below Brand
Claire's brand
Hard Candy
Sally Hansen

You need to remember, nail polish isn't that cheap if you buy a good brand and it isn't on sale, so here's some tips on picking out the right color!

The 'In' Colors for Fall/Winter for Nails:
Burgundy
Metallic's
Gray
Army Green
Off white
Bright red
Baby pink
Mauve
Raspberry Purple
Almost black color
Taupe
Sparkly Colors
Dark Ruby Red
French Manicure
Crackle

The Best Way to Apply Nail Polish:
1.! Wash your hands with soap and water, making sure to scrub under your nails too.
2.! Dry your hands * COMPLETELY before beginning to paint.
3.! Then, take your base coat (clear coat :) and apply one or two strokes.
4.! Next, take the color you want and paint one or two layers, until the color is the way you want and it covers the whole nail!
5.! Let your nails dry for about three-seven minutes (usually depends on the brand!)
6.! Paint your top coat and let dry! If you choose to do a design, do your design over your top coat and then paint another top coat over top! (If that makes any sense, haha.)

&If you have trouble picking out a nail polish color, like me, get some inspiration. Choose a color similar to your favorite shirt, your favorite flowers, or even just choose a color that will match your outfit for a couple of days. Sometimes, you can even paint a color that describes your mood.

BEGINNER makeup. ♥

BEGINNER makeup. ♥
by; @its-kelli-darling

first, i just want you to know, i'm makeup obsessed. BUT i'm not going to go super deep into hard makeup, this is a very simple, very repeatable, cheap makeup look. here we go! (:

STARTER MAKEUP BRANDS;

-covergirl
-maybelline
-e.l.f.
-neutrogena
-revlon

ESSENTIALS;
-bb cream
-blush
-mascara
-eyeshadow
&& maybe foundation?

BB CREAM;
i LOVE bb cream. it perfects your skin while still giving you some coverage! it's great for all makeup users, but it can give you coverage without feeling heavy, which is great for first time makeup users (:

BLUSH;
blush is great for the paler individuals, like myself. blush warms up your face & is put on your cheeks. usually as a rule of thumb, you can apply it on the apples of your cheeks (:

MASCARA;
ahh, mascara. ♥ this can completely change how you look with a little bit. it makes your eyes pop & your look, look more put together. i would suggest covergirl in brown or black if you're a first time user of makeup (:

EYESHADOW;

it is SO easy to do your eyeshadow VERY badly the first time you wear it. so until your more comfortable, i would suggest a plane white foundation that you can apply to the corners of your eyes and on the lid if you have veins showing. :)

FOUNDATION;
if you have acne, or you hate your freckles, or any other thing like that: foundation is the answer. maybelline & neutrogena have some great foundations. i use the moose kind & i highly suggest it because it doesn't feel like you're wearing it! the thing is, if you get a more liquid/cream foundation you need to get a translucent powder so you don't look oilly (: also: if you get a powder foundation i would suggest e.l.f. mist set & spray. if you spray an arms length from your face and pat it down, it will make you look less...powdery.

BRUSHES:
brushes are crucial, but since it's your first time you don't have to spend very much money. maybe buy a brush kit from the drugstore, or a few e.l.f. brushes since they're only $1.

EXTRA TIPS;
youtube is a GREAT place to get information on makeup. some beauty guru's i love are:
meghanheartsmakeup
glasslipperbeauty
meghanrossette
stillababe09

check them out! (:
